What Scouts Do

At Cub Scout Pack 62, we believe that scouting should be fun, meaningful, and family-centered. Our program is built around adventure, learning, and teamwork, helping boys and girls develop the skills and confidence they need to grow into strong leaders.

Frequently Asked Questions

What age groups can join Cub Scouts?

Cub Scouting is for boys and girls in Kindergarten through 5th grade.

Do parents have to attend meetings?

Yes! At Pack 62, we require all parents or guardians to stay for the entire meeting, regardless of their scout’s age. Cub Scouting is a family-focused program, and we want parents to be actively involved, spend quality time with their scout, and help make meetings successful.

It also gives parents a chance to see how the program works—because we always need great volunteers to help keep the pack running. Scouting is stronger when families are engaged, and we welcome any help you’re willing to offer!

How much does it cost to join?

Cub Scouts has a national membership fee, and each pack sets its own dues. Because our pack is sponsored, your dues are only $30 instead of the standard $105.

We do our best to keep Scouting affordable, but there are some additional costs families should be aware of:

  • Uniforms – The official Cub Scout uniform includes a shirt, neckerchief, belt, and hat. These are purchased separately, but don’t worry—we can help guide you on what’s essential and what’s optional.
  • Handbooks & Supplies – Each rank has a handbook, and some activities may require small materials or craft items.
  • Badges & Awards – Scouts earn adventure loops, badges, and patches as they progress. Some of these are covered by the pack, while others may need to be purchased separately.
  • Extras – Activities like the Pinewood Derby, camping trips, or special events may have small costs, but we always aim to keep them reasonable.

Need help? We believe that every child should have the chance to be a Scout, regardless of finances. If cost is a concern, talk to us—we have ways to help, including fundraisers and assistance programs to make sure no one misses out.

When and where do meetings happen?

Dens meet weekly, and the pack meets once a month. Meetings are usually held at Lithia Springs Methodist Church, but special events may happen elsewhere.

What happens at meetings?

Den meetings focus on hands-on activities, adventure requirements, and learning new skills. Pack meetings bring all dens together for fun events, achievements, and pack-wide activities.

How do I sign up?

To get started, fill out our Pack 62 Interest Form. This is not an official registration, but it helps us connect with you and answer any questions.

Cub Scouts also offers online registration through the official BSA website, but we strongly recommend talking to us first before registering online to avoid overpaying!

Have questions? Email us at [email protected].

What does my scout need to get started?

Your scout will need a uniform, handbook, and pack dues paid. We’ll guide you on where to get everything and what’s required for their rank.

Do scouts go camping?

Yes! Camping is an exciting part of Cub Scouting, but it varies by rank. Younger scouts (Lions and Tigers) do family-friendly campouts, while older ranks (Bears, Webelos, and Arrow of Light) get to experience more outdoor activities.

How is Cub Scouting different from Scouts BSA?

Cub Scouting is for younger children (Kindergarten–5th grade) and focuses on family involvement, structured activities, and adventure loops. Scouts BSA (for ages 11–17) is youth-led, with more independence, merit badges, and advanced outdoor skills.
