  • 2025-09-17 – Webelos (4th) – Outdoors: Six Essentials + Short Hike

    What We’re Doing

    Starting the Outdoor Adventure for Webelos (4th). We’ll learn the Cub Scout Six Essentials and take a short nature walk, practicing the Buddy System and Leave No Trace.

    Requirements Targeted

    • Identify and pack the Six Essentials.
    • Take a short hike and identify natural vs. man-made items.
    • Discuss trail safety and the buddy system.

    Materials

    • Example Six Essentials kit (water bottle, snack, whistle, first-aid kit, flashlight/headlamp, sun/rain gear).
    • Trash bag for a 2-minute LNT cleanup.

    Opening (2 min)

    Scout Oath. Quick safety briefing (head count, buddy check).

    Main Activity (25–30 min)

    1. Six Essentials show-and-tell + what each is for.
    2. Short hike (15–20 min). Scouts point out 3 natural and 3 man-made things.
    3. 2-minute Leave No Trace cleanup before returning.

    Second Activity (10 min)

    Nature ID card match or knot relay (square knot).

    Closing (2 min)

    Reflection: “One thing I saw, one thing I learned.”

    At-Home Track

    Pack your own Six Essentials at home. Take a family walk and identify 3 plants or animals.

    Safety Notes
